<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">"Wow!" i hear you say, "Now <i>that's</i> a tasty looking burger!". <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">The pub has a quirky and grimey vibe, its fun and attracts a pretty cool young mixed crowd of folks. It strikes me as a good spot to get absolutely shit-hammered in on a Thursday night, for example.
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uO_Y9kqubXk/VQs5d8WQ6MI/AAAAAAAABuY/cJDt6OTSoFE/s1600/yeahburger%2B(3%2Bof%2B5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uO_Y9kqubXk/VQs5d8WQ6MI/AAAAAAAABuY/cJDt6OTSoFE/s1600/yeahburger%2B(3%2Bof%2B5).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">We ordered a selection of their burger offerings, the Yeah! (</span><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Aged Beef, Cheddar, Avocado, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salad, Bacon £9.50) </span></span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">and the O.G. (</span><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Aged beef, American cheese, gherkins, Yeah! sauce, salad £7.95) </span></span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">- avoiding the quinoa option for obvious reasons. </span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">The </span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">buns were soft fresh and tasty, the melted american cheese and pickles great, the lettuce and tomato salad lacked excitement, </span><span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">but the beef patties let the whole package down a little. Not sure if it was a lack of seasoning, slight overcooking or just not amazing quality beef, but the patty was the element that could do with improving. All things considered a decent enough burger in a decent enough venue, but somewhat disappointing as <strike>that beef was bland af</strike> it could have been a lot better - Just look at the photos for god's sakes! They make some handsome burgers here!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">To be fair, we visited Yeah! some months ago, and i can see they have updated their menu since. Perhaps things have improved, i'd be happy to try them again. They also now do a Scotch-egg burger, which looks ridiculous and must be worth trying.

Apart from my favourite item that is - the Korean pulled pork burger which came with no eggs, and ya know why? Because eggs have no place on a burger, that's why god damnnit. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The venue is a very appealing dimly lit American style diner, neon and all. Staff are cheerful, its a pleasant place to spend an evening. </span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a> and i ordered a Bad Egg burger (£11, top & above pic), a Korean pulled pork burger (£11, 2nd & below pic), a Peking fried pork belly rib (£8.5) and some Njuda cheese & Fried egg Fries (£5). '<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Nduja">Njuda</a> cheese is a very clever invention. Njuda *as you well know* is that spreadable spicy Italian pork sausage, and when </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">fondue'd up with a blend of Raclette and Red Leicester</span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"> cheeses, it makes for a <b>mega</b>-tangy burger topping.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OPZ2WTeeCjo/Vcr6fg6N_3I/AAAAAAAAB3o/DbQwdDEVj0A/s1600/badegg%2B%25284%2Bof%2B6%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OPZ2WTeeCjo/Vcr6fg6N_3I/AAAAAAAAB3o/DbQwdDEVj0A/s1600/badegg%2B%25284%2Bof%2B6%2529.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Korean spiced pulled pork was light and juicy and was glued in place with the sticky njuda cheese. They throw in some <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gochujang">gochujang</a> to warm it all up and add even more Korean flavour. I could swear there was some <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sriracha_sauce">Sriratcha</a> in there too for good measure. This is a really unusual burger which is packed full of flavours.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Bad Egg burger on the other hand is less engaging, its got the same decent rare breed sourced beef patty and delicious njuda cheese, and they chuck in pickles, onions and a silly old egg to complicate the eating process.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uDsn9BjitEU/Vcr6gb51VYI/AAAAAAAAB3s/DZEWqz8yoaM/s1600/badegg%2B%25285%2Bof%2B6%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uDsn9BjitEU/Vcr6gb51VYI/AAAAAAAAB3s/DZEWqz8yoaM/s1600/badegg%2B%25285%2Bof%2B6%2529.jpg" /></span></a></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Recently opened on Percy street in Soho/Fitzrovia the venue has a woody decor downstairs and there's an upstairs seating area too, decorated more like Cath Kidston's living room. <div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Whole un-pasteurised cheese wheels are shipped in each week from the French countryside. This chap had just delivered these bad boys on foot! Just Kidding! He used his trusty Renault 4.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Now BigFernand offer burgers cooked blue, but I can't help but associate the colour blue with shivering cold. And the thought of a cold hamburger makes the baby Jesus cry. </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">So we went for our standard medium-rare order for the</span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;"> three most exciting looking options on the menu. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Starting with the very handsome looking "</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Le Big Fernand" (top pic) which contains "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomme_de_Savoie">Tomme de Savoie</a>" cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, parsley & their own home made cocktail sauce. The </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">beef patty was cooked a perfect med-rare and delivered a powerful beefy flavour. They source their cuts of Ribeye, chuck & bavette from </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Hg Walter in London, and we are looking at a minimum 20% fat content. Tasty!</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;"> But what really hits me is the wonderful cohesion the ingredients have with one another. Each element complements the next perfectly. This is a seriously well designed burger, the flavours are wonderful. A bargain at £7. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sLyVcquUaYY/VVyHFMHCdcI/AAAAAAAABz4/kYfS79yn_Hk/s1600/BigFernand%2B04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sLyVcquUaYY/VVyHFMHCdcI/AAAAAAAABz4/kYfS79yn_Hk/s1600/BigFernand%2B04.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Next up is the </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">£9 "</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Le Victor", which contains - </span><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">sacré bleu! - </span></span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">a Veal patty covered in "<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourme_d%27Ambert">Fourme d'Ambert</a>" which has a mild and smooth flavour for </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">blue cheese </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">that matches the delicate veal flavour beautifully. They throw in caremalised onions, coriander and a sweet mayo just to finish off your taste buds. This is a special burger.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hLxkOzKAuV4/VVyHEkhv4hI/AAAAAAAABzw/C5NtKvBzf_Y/s1600/BigFernand%2B03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hLxkOzKAuV4/VVyHEkhv4hI/AAAAAAAABzw/C5NtKvBzf_Y/s1600/BigFernand%2B03.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Lastly the £9 "Le Bartholomé" is their bacon burger. They use Raclette cheese, Pork bacon, caramelised onions, chives and their bbq sauce (they wouldn't tell me the recipe, but its ace). Its very decent, but not quite as interesting as the previous two offerings. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hP1AD_MN60s/VVyHEnrdr8I/AAAAAAAAB0A/NoL7SKv6ykM/s1600/BigFernand%2B02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hP1AD_MN60s/VVyHEnrdr8I/AAAAAAAAB0A/NoL7SKv6ykM/s1600/BigFernand%2B02.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">My only niggle with the BF experience is the presentation of the burger. They arrive wrapped in greaseproof paper, and when unwrapped you see </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">a seeded bread roll with very little peeking out of the sides. But that said, part of what makes Big Fernand burgers Big Fernand burgers is the way the sesame seed buns almost completely encase their contents. After eating one, you'll understand why they do it.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Big Fernand is probably the most unique burger spot London has seen in some years. Its as if they come from a different country! They create burgers unlike everyone else, and they are excellent to boot. Get down there sharpish. The Veal burger MUST be tried. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Twenty one stores open in the UK in 18 months. With another 5 opening soon. This is an invasion, a takeover the like of which the British burger scene has (probably) never seen before. Initially put off by <a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>'s experience, </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I thought it time i try it out to see what its all about.</span><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lzf235rh3fc/VO34oerYTFI/AAAAAAAABsg/CNLAY43NnHU/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(1%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Lzf235rh3fc/VO34oerYTFI/AAAAAAAABsg/CNLAY43NnHU/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(1%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">9.30pm on a Monday in central London. <a href="http://fiveguys.co.uk/">Five Guys</a> is packed, they are playing loud bad music, the lights are wincingly 'operating room' bright. It reminds me of University cafeterias.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_8bH-mh_lBQ/VO34ogBooQI/AAAAAAAABsQ/mwb4zqSUjVE/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(2%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_8bH-mh_lBQ/VO34ogBooQI/AAAAAAAABsQ/mwb4zqSUjVE/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(2%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">The ordering process is reminiscent of <a href="http://subway.co.uk/">Subway</a>, they have far too many burger topping options to choose from that you run the risk of over doing it considerably. They are free though which is something. It also means there's not an actual Five Guys burger, its all up to you. A bubbly checkout girl took my order. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WCxSbNoNC5A/VO34oSoflcI/AAAAAAAABsM/asref35PO3c/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(4%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WCxSbNoNC5A/VO34oSoflcI/AAAAAAAABsM/asref35PO3c/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(4%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">In order to keep it simple and get a flavour of the place Barack Obama apparently loves, I went for the £5.50 'little' cheeseburger with lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mustard and cooked onions. Four minutes later it was ready at the <a href="http://starbucks.co.uk/">Starbucks</a> style collection counter, wrapped up into a silver foil ball.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OvWPjES5wOo/VO34pHxKoPI/AAAAAAAABsY/E6v0Aaf2u7k/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(5%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OvWPjES5wOo/VO34pHxKoPI/AAAAAAAABsY/E6v0Aaf2u7k/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(5%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The bun was an old fashioned </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">burger-van </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">style sesame seed number. The lettuce pickles and sauces ok, but the onions were awful, a massive ordering blunder on my part. They smelled like a 90s music festival hot dog van. So there was only the beef patty to bring it back together. The essential ingredient, the prince among men. Sadly, it was not enough to win me over. The patty was a bland overcooked under seasoned slice of boredom. The whole ensemble was a limp soggy mess, dying to fall apart in a desperate bid for the nearest bin. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CrdLgdAt8og/VO34qv80ufI/AAAAAAAABss/vfoZzoC7IQM/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(6%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CrdLgdAt8og/VO34qv80ufI/AAAAAAAABss/vfoZzoC7IQM/s1600/five%2Bguys%2B(6%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So to consider that <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2013/07/shake-shack-covent-garden.html">ShakeShack</a>, just two minutes up the road, who offer better quality and better tasting burgers for similar or possibly less cash, so far only have one UK venue. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">[@yesiamben]</a> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">At lunchtime on Sunday I popped along to Shake Shack in Covent Garden to try a very special, limited run of 500, first come first served burger. The 'Emilia Burger' (named after the Emilia-Romagna area in Italy) was a collaboration between Shake Shack and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massimo_Bottura">Massimo Bottura</a>, the owner and chef patron of <a href="http://www.osteriafrancescana.it/osteriafrancescana.html">Osteria Francescana</a>. For those hearing the name for the first time, Osteria Francescana has 3 Michelin stars and was ranked the world's 3rd best restaurant in 2013. He'd made this burger as a limited special in New York for Columbus Day (and apparently it had gone down pretty well), so I was kind of excited to give it a go.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g1JWNg610SM/VGXgIs44EAI/AAAAAAAABoY/GClkHzfl1jU/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(3%2Bof%2B4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g1JWNg610SM/VGXgIs44EAI/AAAAAAAABoY/GClkHzfl1jU/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(3%2Bof%2B4).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">While Massimo sat signing copies of his new book '<a href="http://amzn.to/1xtL9xS">Never Trust A Skinny Italian Chef</a>', I grabbed a burger and tucked in. First things first - this is a classic case of the burger not looking like the press shot. I mean - the green stuff (salsa verde) doesn't look <i>terribly</i> appealing in my photo (and as CBB's wife said "especially when you have children")… But never judge a book by the cover, right?!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xFec8avcMiE/VGXgIAAkatI/AAAAAAAABoU/V8uSgIXNMYM/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(1%2Bof%2B4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xFec8avcMiE/VGXgIAAkatI/AAAAAAAABoU/V8uSgIXNMYM/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(1%2Bof%2B4).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The burger itself was your pretty standard Shake Shack affair - the soft (potato?) bun, the skinny patty. We've </span><a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2011/09/shake-shack-nyc.html" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">said</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2013/07/shake-shack-covent-garden.html" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">before</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> - as far as this sort of burger goes Shake Shack have it nailed. The press leaflet said the burger was ground with </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cotechino_Modena" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">cotechino sausage</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> and parmigiano reggiano, but I'm fairly sure it was a ground layer on top of the patty, cooked to crispy (different I think, to the NY version, where the sausage was in slices on top of the patty). Salsa verde sat underneath the top half of the bun, and Villa Manodori balsamic mayo below the patty on the bottom half of the bun.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0DVpAx_-OUg/VGXgKGWukfI/AAAAAAAABos/QRVJ4GsGYEc/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(4%2Bof%2B4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0DVpAx_-OUg/VGXgKGWukfI/AAAAAAAABos/QRVJ4GsGYEc/s1600/ss%2Bemi%2B(4%2Bof%2B4).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I started with a dip of my finger in the salsa verde. It had a punchy, lingering flavour, with the anchovy (?) coming through strong. The mayo had a beautiful tang. Taking a bite of the burger was rather lovely experience. The flavours sat perfectly together, balancing each other in a way that made each mouthful a delight. Nothing was too strong - just a wonderful, different and exciting blend - especially when you're used to the usual cheese and bacon affair. In fact, the only real problem with this was it was over so soon.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I'd love to try the setup of this burger with a different patty. Maybe something slightly bigger. But I wonder if half the genius comes from the fact it was a Shake Shack burger. I could have eaten two - but did I need to? Probably not. Would I like to try it again? Absolutely. You have to be pretty bold to try something 'very' different (salsa verde?!) in a burger. And most often than not it just doesn't work. But if anyone is going to make it work, it's going to be a guy with 3 Michelin stars. And make it work he did. Two thumbs up Shake Shack and Massimo. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yQfFl4ckmDo/VD_wuyUZJqI/AAAAAAAABnI/ZrZ6LTQNfi8/s1600/hb%2B(1%2Bof%2B1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yQfFl4ckmDo/VD_wuyUZJqI/AAAAAAAABnI/ZrZ6LTQNfi8/s1600/hb%2B(1%2Bof%2B1).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] Yesterday I headed over to Honest for the inaugural night of their new special, the 'Oktoberfest'. It's no secret that </span><a href="http://twitter.com/cheeseburgerb0y" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Cheeseburgerboy</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> and I both love Honest. We've been fans from the first night we sat outside waiting on a bench in Brixton market right through to today, where they can claim </span><a href="http://www.honestburgers.co.uk/locations/" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">7 restaurants</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">. And the Soho branch is usually where I direct people who message and say "I'm in central London, where can I get a good burger?" (you know, because even if you have to queue they'll take a number, let you go for a pint and call you when they're ready [cough, cough] </span><a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2013/01/patty-bun-soho.html" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Patty and Bun</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> :).</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So, I was pretty excited to hear about the new special - especially as it coincidentally coincided with a planned Honest visit. And so at 8pm on a chilly wet night, I was sat outside under the awning and heater, surprisingly warm, drinking <a href="http://www.theredchurchbrewery.com/products.php">Redchurch Bethnal Pale Ale</a> and excited eat.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Oktoberfest burger sounds amazing on paper - beef, Black Forest bacon, Bavarian smoked cheddar, sauerkraut and currywurst sauce. And rosemary salted chips, of course. In reality - I'm not so sure. From a build point of view, we had the sauerkraut underneath, the cheese, the bacon and then the currywurst on top (I think). </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KXTRdkm6cYo/VD_xQbYZ3rI/AAAAAAAABng/BgNfiddsEo8/s1600/hb%2B(2%2Bof%2B3).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KXTRdkm6cYo/VD_xQbYZ3rI/AAAAAAAABng/BgNfiddsEo8/s1600/hb%2B(2%2Bof%2B3).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The patty was, as always, lovely. The bacon and cheese were great. The sauerkraut was good. And I would probably really love the currywurst sauce in something else, or by itself. But for some reason I'm not sure they fitted together *perfectly*. Don't get me wrong - it's still a great burger - hell, pretty much everything Honest put together is good, it's just not their best. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Perhaps the problem was I saw the <a href="https://twitter.com/honestburgers/status/522744986644004864">press picture</a> earlier in the day. CBB have discussed this a lot recently. Burgers rarely look like the press pictures - which is fine, but compare my photos (I took these outside, apologies for the lighting!) with the one in the link above.</span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] Last Sunday I headed over to High Street Kensington for some lunch at Dirty Tommi's, a Sunday popup combining <a href="http://dirty-bones.com/">Dirty Bones</a> and <a href="http://www.burgerjoint.co.uk/">Tommi's Burger Joint</a>. Now bearing in mind I've <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2013/08/tommis-burger-joint-marylebone.html">already claimed</a> Tommi's is one of Iceland's greatest exports and Dirty Bones seemed like a cracking venue, I figured it should be a pretty good combo.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-44ACT1x-9QA/VDKvK-Ef2tI/AAAAAAAABlY/RoTbDqbyico/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(9%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-44ACT1x-9QA/VDKvK-Ef2tI/AAAAAAAABlY/RoTbDqbyico/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(9%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So I suppose location first (because you've already read our Tommi's review, *right*?). Dirty Bones *is* a cracking venue. It's a basement place (a former, failed nightclub, apparently) with a kinda cool, retro feel. They do a bunch of cocktails and their regular menu is very America inspired (ribs, dogs, etc.). It'd be a good place for a party. Or a night out drinking. Or both, preferably. </span></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">And obviously Tommi's makes good burgers. </span></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Thus, for an undetermined time (I hear somewhere between 6 weeks and Christmas - but err towards 6 weeks so you don't miss out) the two have come together in a Captain Planet-esque combining of powers to bring the Dirty Tommi's Pop-Up experience. And lunch for me. </span></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l14WC4_DPKo/VDKvI_rGQpI/AAAAAAAABk0/uoWJMY8e1mM/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(3%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l14WC4_DPKo/VDKvI_rGQpI/AAAAAAAABk0/uoWJMY8e1mM/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(3%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">We started buy sharing some Sticky Pork Ribs, which were pretty ribtastic. Not only were they very tender, but the meat was plentiful and just dropped off the bone. The BBQ sauce was a massive plus - a little spicy, a little fruity and nice and sweet. The perfect entre. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVsO1IyRUvU/VDK1PdvRY6I/AAAAAAAABl8/fOIUQddwrFQ/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(4%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZVsO1IyRUvU/VDK1PdvRY6I/AAAAAAAABl8/fOIUQddwrFQ/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(4%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">For our mains we went with Tommi's Steak Burger and the Dirty Mac Burger. I would have loved to try Tommi's Burger Dog - if anyone tries it, can you </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">tweet me</a> and let me know your thoughts?! To be fair, our choices kinda had to be done - the Dirty Mac Burger was a gimmick I wasn't prepared to miss out on and the Tommi's Steak Burger just sounded like a good burger, you know? As a side we split some Sloppi Dirty Fries. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So, burgers. Tommi's Steak Burger was *fantastic*. It said 'rump, rib-eye and fillet coarsely ground' on the menu and I suppose I wasn't expecting it to taste so, for want of a better (not so made up) word, steak-y. I mean it almost felt like eating shavings of steak compressed together (which it probably was), except it was soft and moist and wonderful. Really a great patty. The build wasn't anything out of the norm for a cheeseburger, with a little lettuce and tomato, some American cheese and ketchup and mayo. But that's what works. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7-4Gu40mBwc/VDK2WBLrSbI/AAAAAAAABmU/8xy56dCSVfA/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(6%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7-4Gu40mBwc/VDK2WBLrSbI/AAAAAAAABmU/8xy56dCSVfA/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(6%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Dirty Mac Burger was an entirely different beast. Same bun aside, it was topped with macaroni cheese and served on a bed of charred lettuce. The patty was good - exactly what you'd expect from a Tommi's burger, and like the steak burger, a good medium rare. The charred lettuce was great - I'm not quite sure why I liked it so much, maybe it just worked with that BBQ tasting 'steak glaze' - definitely a nice addition. The mac and cheese? I love mac and cheese. And I'm sure, on it's own the Dirty Bones mac and cheese is amazing. But in a burger? I don't know - maybe not cheesy enough? Maybe a few too many carbs? I'm glad I had it, and it was certainly and interesting texture to eat, but in retrospect maybe the Burger Dog would have been better.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ZKCOdVPCKM/VDKvKSPUzjI/AAAAAAAABlM/znkLLh23k0U/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(7%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--ZKCOdVPCKM/VDKvKSPUzjI/AAAAAAAABlM/znkLLh23k0U/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(7%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Sloppi Dirty Fries we had with the burgers were marvellous. The fries alone were good, but topped with (and bear with me here) Tommi's mince, Kimchi sauce and spring onions - and *then* served with Dirty Bones gravy - wow. Somewhere between poutine and poutit-in-my-mouth-as-fast-as-possible</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VVKbrDfL3n0/VDKvKf5VhrI/AAAAAAAABlQ/sIXLotbSIQQ/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(8%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VVKbrDfL3n0/VDKvKf5VhrI/AAAAAAAABlQ/sIXLotbSIQQ/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(8%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Rather than a dessert (cookie / doughnut), we opted for a couple of 'Boozy Shakes'. One Strawberry Shortbread (vodka and, um, strawberry shortbread) and one Dirty Bounty (rum, chocolate and coconut). Both were lovely. Super creamy and thick - and if you're a fan of the Bounty bar, you probably shouldn't miss this. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WfMHgrych_k/VDKvI2PjsFI/AAAAAAAABks/l_IAwV2PtYM/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(11%2Bof%2B11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WfMHgrych_k/VDKvI2PjsFI/AAAAAAAABks/l_IAwV2PtYM/s1600/Dirty%2BBones%2B(11%2Bof%2B11).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">It's a great venue anyway (date-night approved), but if you're looking for roast-less Sunday lunch (or dinner!) in the next few weeks, you really shouldn't miss the popup. Enjoy! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">They offer a cheeseburger (£7.50), a "</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Burgershack" </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">cheeseburger (£9.50), a buttermilk chicken burger (9.50) and a shroom Meltdown (£7). I went for the "Burgershack" which is a 6oz patty of gress-fed, well aged, native breed cow, topped with melted cheddar, 2 x pancetta strips and chipotle burger sauce. Under the patty they slip in strips of iceberg lettuce and more sauce. Burger and sides arrived on an Americana style plastic red tray covered by burger-graphic greaseproof paper. Nice touch. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKqccQib6kU/U_TJTWJibpI/AAAAAAAABhg/eN_JIsVdhvc/s1600/BurgerShack%2B(4%2Bof%2B12).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKqccQib6kU/U_TJTWJibpI/AAAAAAAABhg/eN_JIsVdhvc/s1600/BurgerShack%2B(4%2Bof%2B12).jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The patty-of-dreams as they call it really is the centerpiece of this burger, as it should be. Its a wonderful course ground grill-smashed number with charry edges and a juicy pink middle. Med-rare is the default. Perfectly </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">seasoned, its a *really* tasty patty. Reminded me of the early days of the <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2011/12/meat-liquor-dirty-name-dirty-burger.html">meatwagon/liquor</a> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">thick patty. Ie. rough edged with masses of creamy beef flavour. The pancetta had the right consistency of crunchy not chewy, and didn't overload everything with salty porkyness, thank fuck. The lettuce and brioche bun were fresh as you'd expect, and the gently spiced chipotle burger sauce added that nostalgic element to the top. Top job lads, i'll be back shortly for the cheeseburger. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fXfz7sQV4-o/U_TJSGKg00I/AAAAAAAABhM/Veq5-3bzS9Y/s1600/BurgerShack%2B(10%252Bof%252B12).jpg&container=blogger&gadget=a&rewriteMime=image%2F*" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fXfz7sQV4-o/U_TJSGKg00I/AAAAAAAABhM/Veq5-3bzS9Y/s1600/BurgerShack%2B(10%2Bof%2B12).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Sides are a lot of fun too. The Amazeballs (2 for £4) are balls of juicy deep fried pulled pork - </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">whats not to like? I happily dunked them in the hot sauce which i'm almost certain had <a href="http://theribman.co.uk/">the Rib </a></span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://theribman.co.uk/">man</a>'s Holy Fuck in it, but diluted (thankfully) somewhat into a more pleasant dipping treat. They also have very decent BBQ sauce which was in the vague flavour-space of that classic McD's BBQ sauce but with better pulpy texture, fresher flavour and a </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">spicy</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">little finish. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Deep fried pickles (£3) were great too, a light tempura batter housing warm softened pickle </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">strips, and the accompanying blue cheese sauce suited them perfectly.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="https://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] Earlier this year, the kind folks behind <a href="http://www.campbestival.net/">Camp Bestival</a> were kind enough to get in touch and send <a href="https://twitter.com/Cheeseburgerb0y">CheeseburgerBoy</a> and I an invite down to their Dorset festival. This year, see, they'd decided to try something called '<a href="http://www.campbestival.net/line-up/2014-line-up/the-feast-collective/">The Feast Collective</a>' - 'independent chefs, street vendors and creative food makers'. Something they (correctly) thought might be right up our strasse.
</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">
Alas CBB, who'd been before and thoroughly enjoyed it, was booked in to play some records at a wedding that weekend - so I said I'd head down and eat for two. How awful. I couldn't commit to the weekend, so figured I'd head down (with the girlfriend) for the Saturday day. After a lonnnnnng (lots of traffic) drive that was peppered with showers, we arrived and parked up in the fields that surround beautiful <a href="http://www.lulworth.com/">Lulworth Castle</a> to much bluer skies and a lovely bright sun. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mNEf2FpU4ng/U-4Es3r8YbI/AAAAAAAABgA/qfDyYsyDBiA/s1600/cb%2B(5%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mNEf2FpU4ng/U-4Es3r8YbI/AAAAAAAABgA/qfDyYsyDBiA/s1600/cb%2B(5%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The atmosphere at Camp Bestival is fantastic. It's very friendly, very relaxed and very peaceful. I'm assuming this is the result of it being 'family friendly' - there were certainly tons of kids who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves (and massive congrats to whoever let it be known - true of not - that you got 10p for every cup that was returned for recycling… There were kids *everywhere* picking up litter!). Definitely a whole lot of fun for children of all ages.
For the most part, the music wasn't *entirely* my cup of tea, although I *was* surprised at how many </span><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie_Ellis-Bextor_discography" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Sophie Ellis-Bextor</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> songs I knew… Also managed to catch the wonderful </span><a href="http://www.gentlemanrhymer.com/" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> and of course, De La Soul, who were as fantastic as expected. Good times.
Anyway - the food. Firstly, The Feast Collective is a great idea. For the most part, festival food is, well, shitty. I mean every now and again you'll get a good roast pork bun or something - but frankly it's *usually* overpriced and subpar. So the idea of getting a bunch of people together to do *interesting* food of decent quality is a good one. Well done, </span><a href="https://twitter.com/RobdaBank" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Mr. da Bank</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">. There was a great range of places - I'm not going to go through them all, you can look for yourself </span><a href="http://www.campbestival.net/line-up/a-to-z-food/" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">here</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">.
So, in between numerous pints of Tuborg… </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vNw-PUIgMtw/U-SrFMExTmI/AAAAAAAABek/11EekYj7ADg/s1600/tuborg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vNw-PUIgMtw/U-SrFMExTmI/AAAAAAAABek/11EekYj7ADg/s1600/tuborg.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">…I got stuck in.
I kicked off with a cheese and bacon burger from the </span><a href="http://meatcure.com/" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Meatcure</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;"> stand near the main stage. Served in a sesame seed bun, was a 6oz patty they got from their 'friendly village butcher' - underneath which sat some lettuce and tomato and on top of which sat some bacon, (great) fried onions and a slice of Monteray Jack cheese, all served with the usual sauces. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k-B98SUOijM/U-SufAhuOrI/AAAAAAAABfA/XFaXuKGbgUA/s1600/meatcure2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k-B98SUOijM/U-SufAhuOrI/AAAAAAAABfA/XFaXuKGbgUA/s1600/meatcure2.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Overall not terrible - I enjoyed it and I've definitely had worse, but it didn't set my world on fire. I suppose it encapsulated my general feelings towards traditional festival food - everything had been cooked already and the meal just constructed out of parts taken from silver trays keeping it warm. Hey ho. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xT2PPILAAJ8/U-SrVHrPznI/AAAAAAAABe0/zrJnjwp_w7U/s1600/feast.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xT2PPILAAJ8/U-SrVHrPznI/AAAAAAAABe0/zrJnjwp_w7U/s1600/feast.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">A drink or so later and I proceeded to The Feast Collective tent. It's great there are so many interesting eats under one roof - and some of the smells are fantastic. Next stop was </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/raduk8" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">DJ BBQ</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">, who was rocking his trademark meat suit…</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BUto8_XR86c/U-SuqjA-riI/AAAAAAAABfI/UUx4JYoHDJc/s1600/djbbqman.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BUto8_XR86c/U-SuqjA-riI/AAAAAAAABfI/UUx4JYoHDJc/s1600/djbbqman.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">The </span><a href="http://www.clanmanagement.co.uk/talent/christian-stevenson" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">man of many talents</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;"> was cooking up a storm before spinning some tunes a little later in the evening. I went with the pulled pork burger - which was served in a soft 'semi brioche' bun with a slice of (cheddar?) cheese and the 'slow & low' pulled pork on top of a 7oz patty (see photo at top of screen too). </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TMPUwsG8scY/U-4FvVJfEhI/AAAAAAAABgo/HsNGYbtd95w/s1600/cb%2B(2%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TMPUwsG8scY/U-4FvVJfEhI/AAAAAAAABgo/HsNGYbtd95w/s1600/cb%2B(2%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">It was about 3 mouthfuls in I realised there was no sauce on the burger (that I could see) - which was interesting and actually kind of nice, I think mainly because the pulled pork was *super* moist. Again, the patty was cooked a little more than I would have liked it, but overall a pretty great eat. Perhaps a little BBQ sauce or something (I'm sure there was probably some there that I missed) and I would have been a happy piggy.
Two burgers down and no more on the nearby radar (I could eat GBK anytime), I decided to try something from <a href="http://www.smokestak.co.uk/">Smokestak</a>. Of course I lack the ability to choose between a pulled pork bun or a beef brisket bun, so I asked what thought was best. Both good apparently… but the brisket was 'just ready' so they said to go with that. And while I was waiting they'd let me try a little of the pulled pork. Ok then. The pork was wonderful - whatever they'd rubbed on it (mustard, garlic, brown sugar - and some other bits I didn't catch) was sweet and fantastic. Enough to make me think I may have made a mistake. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qs4ack0F6xg/U-4FQZ0o6hI/AAAAAAAABgQ/jM2w_i4H9cg/s1600/cb%2B(3%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qs4ack0F6xg/U-4FQZ0o6hI/AAAAAAAABgQ/jM2w_i4H9cg/s1600/cb%2B(3%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">But my brisket bun was equally as good. Soft, pink, not at all over seasoned and served in a toasted bun with some red peppers that tasted sweet and pickled - think peppadew and you're probably pretty close.
In the meantime, the girlfriend headed to <a href="http://www.whiterabbitdalston.com/">White Rabbit</a> and picked up some BBQ chicken with tamarind and slaw. And really rather enjoyed it.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hSjS-18bUKc/U-4FZkSaefI/AAAAAAAABgY/HYHCztjl77M/s1600/cb%2B(4%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hSjS-18bUKc/U-4FZkSaefI/AAAAAAAABgY/HYHCztjl77M/s1600/cb%2B(4%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">To be honest, I think she appreciated the choice. Being gluten intolerant, she's usually restricted to a few dishes and was certainly happy to have the choice. For once.
After a drink and a 'digest my meal' stroll, I decided to try and shovel something else in. Despite what CBB will have you believe, 4 meals pushes it for even the greediest me. So for the last one I decided to try something a little less heavy. And the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakshouka">shakshuka</a> from <a href="http://eatpoco.com/">Poco</a> looked perfect. Of course Poco also offered chorizo. And again - I can't choose, so I ended up with a chorizo sausage and the shakshuka (which is essentially an egg cooked in passata) served on top of a slice of sourdough. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IpBRuDpYPNo/U-4FgLn6V4I/AAAAAAAABgg/peg9boejSR4/s1600/cb%2B(6%2Bof%2B6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IpBRuDpYPNo/U-4FgLn6V4I/AAAAAAAABgg/peg9boejSR4/s1600/cb%2B(6%2Bof%2B6).jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">It was topped with some coriander and salt and pepper and I'm please to announce it was as nice as it sounded. And looked. And smelled.
At this point it was close to 10, some places seemed to be slowing up and some places were running out of food for the day (damn you </span><a href="http://www.campbestival.net/line-up/2014-line-up/the-cake-shop-bakery/" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Cake Shop Bakery</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">!). Whilst I'm sure I could have stuffed a donut down my food hole (again, damn everyone who finished the Cake Shop Bakery donuts!) what I really need to do was sit down with a beer and watch De La Soul. Which I did.
The Feast Collective is definitely a step forward as far as festival food goes. Couple that with the lovely Camp Bestival atmosphere (and a couple of good bands) and you have a pretty great day (or weekend on the cards). Hooray!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;">"Burgers that make your soul tingle and your dreams come true." is the tagline at <a href="http://www.royaleeatery.com/">Royale</a>, a trendy burger joint found on a street famed for its great selection of restaurants, close to the base of table mountain. I was taken here by some friends and was delighted to see that <a href="http://www.burgerac.com/">Burgerac</a> has his name on a menu item. It made ordering very simple.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">After some wait (they were rammed) my Burgerac burger and salad arrived and very attractive it was too. The 160g beef patty was delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare and came topped with a tasty layer of melted mature cheddar cheese. The patty sits on some crisp lettuce and above the cheese is a tangy chipotle sauce and an onion & gherkin salsa.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--i3hssKiAxQ/U2IPX45UxjI/AAAAAAAABUc/byGALkonocQ/s1600/Royale+(2+of+4).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--i3hssKiAxQ/U2IPX45UxjI/AAAAAAAABUc/byGALkonocQ/s1600/Royale+(2+of+4).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Saffers *know* how to produce, prepare and cook beef. They are very good at it and this is no exception. This burger wasn't the messiest, drippiest beef filled thing i've ever eaten (Fnarr fnar) but was far from dry. The overall combination of flavours and textures was excellent. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">The chipotle, gherkins and cheese created a tangy, salty crunch which complemented the meat beautifully. A very decent brioche bun sealed the deal. This burger is an example of how simplicity often triumphs over complexity. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BvEJW-YjttI/U6BhqubIlJI/AAAAAAAABZY/CWsENLHmqsI/s1600/Beard+(3+of+6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BvEJW-YjttI/U6BhqubIlJI/AAAAAAAABZY/CWsENLHmqsI/s1600/Beard+(3+of+6).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Beard To Tail <strike>is</strike> <b>was</b> a barbecue restaurant primarily, but i didn't get involved in tasting any of that. I considered them a lot who know how to serve meaty dishes properly and as such assumed they would know how to mince a few assorted cuts of beef, form a patty from it, then cook it and bung it in a bun with some crunchy bits. There's varying degree's of skill involved in designing and producing a good burger, and based on those (and cramming in in your cram-hole) one can formulate an opinion on how successful the producer has been. In this case <i>not</i> successful. <i>Un</i> successful. <i>Sans</i> success. </span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UNev1kp5m6s/U6BhrML_M1I/AAAAAAAABZo/AYbkAQFM7p4/s1600/Beard+(2+of+6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UNev1kp5m6s/U6BhrML_M1I/AAAAAAAABZo/AYbkAQFM7p4/s1600/Beard+(2+of+6).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Ok, so the interior is pretty dark and gloomy and as such the photos are rather poor for this post, and i apologise for that. The decor of the place <strike>is</strike> was rather nice, kind of industrial and quirky. It attracted hipsters and god knows they like 'quirk'. But lets not forget we are in Shoreditch here. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Cocktails <strike>are</strike> were the mainstay of the bar and looked good, but we had beers so i can't comment on the mixed stuff. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g_u1pGTaZQc/U6BhqkjTw6I/AAAAAAAABZU/nfWFCEbD8YI/s1600/Beard+(1+of+6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g_u1pGTaZQc/U6BhqkjTw6I/AAAAAAAABZU/nfWFCEbD8YI/s1600/Beard+(1+of+6).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Ok so cutting to the chase, the burger wins no prises for presentation. Just look at it for gods sakes. The patty looks like they have a first time chef having a go. Its tall and narrow and awful. The bun is huge and drawfs the patty, which takes about 19 bites of bun to get to. The meat isnt <i>that</i> bad tasting, but its nothing to get excited about either. And due to the poor grill-work the medium rare-ness is only found in a central sphere surrounded by a ball of well done boredom.</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">They kindly throw in some pickle slices, sliced carrot, sliced onions and sliced lettuce. There was a large slab of half melted cheese for good measure and a thick tomato slice to further annoy. But worst of all was the insipid pot of sweet burger relish. </span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://dipandflip.co.uk/">Dip & Flip</a> is located on Battersea Rise, which is a fairly busy road in Clapham. The whole front of the restaurant is open to the elements on warmer days which made for a rather traffic-noisy meal if you are eating earlyish. The interior is modern, with bespoke gravy flavoured wall art (not from messy eaters!), and school desk/chair type seating arrangements, a bit like you'd find in an Honest burgers.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ulLS42BSy5M/U5heqC_adsI/AAAAAAAABY0/SYYfykyJ-po/s1600/dipandflip+(5+of+11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ulLS42BSy5M/U5heqC_adsI/AAAAAAAABY0/SYYfykyJ-po/s1600/dipandflip+(5+of+11).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The burger patties were a proper Yankee-style smashed-on-the-grill affair with crispy uneven edges and a good course ground texture in the middle. Ordering the default medium rare was only just pink in the middle. The beef was pretty tasty, but perhaps a sniff under seasoned. A soft brioche bun encased the patty which sits on a base of crunchy mustard slaw heavy in white cabbage. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WtVu-koWaVY/U5heqXRt5MI/AAAAAAAABYg/0emSP0Zhy74/s1600/dipandflip+(7+of+11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WtVu-koWaVY/U5heqXRt5MI/AAAAAAAABYg/0emSP0Zhy74/s1600/dipandflip+(7+of+11).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The £7.50 chilli burger is my usual fave, and the overly generous amount of roughly chopped green chillis were only a brief worry, as they had a pleasant mellow flavour. A cheese slice is melted into the patty but had something of a rarebit texture, which was a little loose and creamy for my liking, and didn't pack as much taste as it could have. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S5o8O8l-v5g/U5hepXo7NhI/AAAAAAAABYM/PSysbp01PF8/s1600/dipandflip+(4+of+11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S5o8O8l-v5g/U5hepXo7NhI/AAAAAAAABYM/PSysbp01PF8/s1600/dipandflip+(4+of+11).jpg" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The £9.95 roast beef (or lamb) topped 'dip & flip burger' was the one to have. The gravy-dipped thinly sliced roast beef was soft, delicate and delicious. I've had a number burgers with roast beef slices in them over the years, and this is by far the best of them. The gravy adds that essential lubrication to what can otherwise be a hard to swallow layer. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r7JqMs-Mddk/U5hepCX0MQI/AAAAAAAABYI/JkP5bhy7NO0/s1600/dipandflip+(3+of+11).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r7JqMs-Mddk/U5hepCX0MQI/AAAAAAAABYI/JkP5bhy7NO0/s1600/dipandflip+(3+of+11).jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Poutine! <a href="http://dipandflip.co.uk/">D&F</a> are another place that offers poutine! They melt a bunch of mozzarella pieces into a thin gravy in which the fries swim around. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Its not the best poutine in town, goto <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2014/04/little-social-mayfair.html">Little Social</a> for that, but it was still worth ordering over boring plain old french fries.</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The thing that makes dip and flip different though is that every burger or sandwich comes with a cardboard bowl of pretty amazing beef gravy, rich in beef and marrow flavours. Its upto you how much or little you dunk and great to see a burger joint doing something different that works. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ycIUWS0RLV0/U2IfVKi90iI/AAAAAAAABVE/TVDMreDGaK4/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(4%2Bof%2B7).jpg&container=blogger&gadget=a&rewriteMime=image%2F*" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ycIUWS0RLV0/U2IfVKi90iI/AAAAAAAABVE/TVDMreDGaK4/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(4+of+7).jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;">After a bizarre twitter invite to try their new burger, i happened upon my local TGI Fridays for a nostalgic step back in time to my teenage years. TGI Fridays followed by the cinema was pretty much what i did on a Saturday before i looked old enough to buy alcohol. Then i'd substitute TGIs for a nice sit in a park with my friends and a bottle of cheap booze. Wholesome stuff i'm sure you can all relate to.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlG7dTV59l0/U2IfVEJcR-I/AAAAAAAABVM/AEZkDRgvu3s/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(2+of+7).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tlG7dTV59l0/U2IfVEJcR-I/AAAAAAAABVM/AEZkDRgvu3s/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(2+of+7).jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;">I wasn't expecting much from a TGI burger. I presumed it wouldn't be allowed to be served pink in the middle (i was right), the beef would be bone dry (i was wrong), flavourless (hmm) and the toppings would overwhelm everything such that it would taste more like a BLT than a burger (well, kind of). </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V_dxzFJmXsU/U2IfV1KqHzI/AAAAAAAABVk/Uk9LSuaeNi4/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(5+of+7).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V_dxzFJmXsU/U2IfV1KqHzI/AAAAAAAABVk/Uk9LSuaeNi4/s1600/TGI+Fridays+(5+of+7).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">A smiley waitress greeted and seated us and looked rather excited when i said "I'll have what Jack's having" - the passphrase needed to get you their newly developed off-menu burger. "Oooh, I didn't think that was available yet!" she said. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;">How exciting. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3PYoJdfoGOg/U2IfWSFxULI/AAAAAAAABVo/Yt_-VdIycik/s1600/TGI+Fridays+%25287+of+7%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3PYoJdfoGOg/U2IfWSFxULI/AAAAAAAABVo/Yt_-VdIycik/s1600/TGI+Fridays+%25287+of+7%2529.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">When my as yet nameless burger arrived, it was evident i wouldn't need to eat again for a few days. These things are huge. There was a thick layer of chilli's, peppers, beef chilli, cheese and crunchy </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">deep-</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">fried onion strings on top of the patty. This packed a fair bit of flavour which did a fair job of disguising the blandness of the beef patty below. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">The patty had been fairly well seasoned, but was over cooked for my tastes, the beef overly ground and it was covered in a sticky sweet sauce which i imagine is their Jack Daniels glaze. Under the patty was a layer of tomato and chopped raw red onion in a thousand-islandish sauce. The brioche bun was pretty decent, soft and fresh. The burger </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">comes with a small bowl of a sickly sweet bbqish dipping sauce which I wasn't a fan of. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Why so many ingredients & flavours? i don't think the beef got a look-in at design time.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31AY18cH9M8/U2IfVQVnRII/AAAAAAAABVQ/oovV-U6uHJM/s1600/TGI+Fridays+%25281+of+7%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-31AY18cH9M8/U2IfVQVnRII/AAAAAAAABVQ/oovV-U6uHJM/s1600/TGI+Fridays+%25281+of+7%2529.jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Yup, its party time in a TGI Fridays.</span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Ok my expectations were low, but this wasn't too bad. To summarise, its pretty decent cheesy-beef-chilli served in a large bland burger. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">Service was great, and my Sam Adams beer was perfectly ice cold.</span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://twitter.com/_JasonAtherton">Jason Atherton</a> opened Little Social after the success of his Pollen Street Social restaurant across the street. Canadian chef <a href="http://twitter.com/carldocherty">Carl Docherty</a> obviously has a natural talent when it comes to creating cheeseburgers as this one was one of those rare treats that on the first bite you look up, your eyes widen, you </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">quietly </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">moan "MMHHHHH", then sit gormlessly chewing for a moment in a burger trance. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The burger costs £15 and comes with fries, but we took the £3 </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><i>upgrade</i></span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"> to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine">Poutine</a> (</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; text-align: start;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">which comes with jalapeños and chorizo)</span></span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> and you should too. A Canadian specialty that we don't see enough of in London, my favourite is served close to Canada in Seattle's fabulous </span><a href="http://twitter.com/gainsbourgbar" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Gainsbourg bar</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">. But thats quite a drive away. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So, to the burger. The seeded brioche bun was as fresh as could be, soft, not too sweet and it perfectly matched the size of the patty. Top marks. The patty was the really special bit. Loosely formed juicy medium rare beef, </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">seared</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">just enough on the edges to hold it together. The taste buds are bombarded with buttery beef flavours. The crispy bacon adds texture but does not overwhelm the beef, and the pickles, cheese and caramelised onions combine to enrich the overall taste. To my palette, the balance of ingredients and flavours is absolute perfection. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FkdOL-HO7Pc/UwNmrptykjI/AAAAAAAABQU/tWc1TMhch70/s1600/LittleSocial5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FkdOL-HO7Pc/UwNmrptykjI/AAAAAAAABQU/tWc1TMhch70/s1600/LittleSocial5.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The menu offers an 'Optional supplement of pan-fried foie gras £10', which i didn't try, and frankly i can't see how it would improve things. Book in advance, this place gets busy. We went in Feb and had to book 3 weeks in advance for a Monday might. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MTkNprcqcwg/UtgbYCNqN_I/AAAAAAAABOY/tp4uj4OLprk/s1600/smbrgr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MTkNprcqcwg/UtgbYCNqN_I/AAAAAAAABOY/tp4uj4OLprk/s1600/smbrgr.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">How many times have we all driven past Starvin' Marvin's Diner on the A40 into/out of London and looked in wonder at this beautiful slab of kitch 50's Americana. A beacon of shiny stainless steel hope set against the miserable <strike>shitness</strike> backdrop of Greenford. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I still can't not look at it when i drive past, risking a potential fast-lane shunt. It offers a hint of the apparently happy, care-free lifestyle of 50s America, and it always makes me smile.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dyLXKiJHwyc/UtgbXoFyQzI/AAAAAAAABN8/548vNd87szY/s1600/sm1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dyLXKiJHwyc/UtgbXoFyQzI/AAAAAAAABN8/548vNd87szY/s1600/sm1.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Inside its every bit as authentic as the outside. Everything you'd hope a Streamliner Diner would be: Red pleather booths make up the majority of the venue seating with matching stools set against the bar, </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Black & White checkerboard floor tiles, a Wurlitzer jukebox playing Rock n' Roll,</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Americana pictures on the walls, neon signage everywhere and a cheerful young waitress with a nice smile. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TdSpCCGmD2Q/UtgbXtNmG3I/AAAAAAAABOE/aWoM0Akn3U8/s1600/sm2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TdSpCCGmD2Q/UtgbXtNmG3I/AAAAAAAABOE/aWoM0Akn3U8/s1600/sm2.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Ok its a little old and could do with a bit of a refresh, but its still a fun place in which to sit and absorb the retro surroundings. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The place was completely empty this Monday lunchtime, and as </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I ordered at the bar, I was told to sit anywhere. I chose a booth, sat down and just as i started to smile at all the crap on the walls, the waitress apologised and said i couldn't sit there. She didn't speak great English so wasn't able to explain why, so i moved to the next booth which she seemed happy with. Mysterious. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tF3fqh-scwQ/UtgbXie_FPI/AAAAAAAABOA/m21PmR9Attw/s1600/sm3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tF3fqh-scwQ/UtgbXie_FPI/AAAAAAAABOA/m21PmR9Attw/s1600/sm3.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I have been eating the occasional burger at Starvin' Marvin's for the last 20 years, and after each visit i vow never to go back due to the appalling food they serve. But as the years pass and the negative memories fade, i am lured in again by the look of the venue and every 5 or so years i give it another go, in the hope that they have re-vamped the kitchen and are serving up some good stuff for a change. This visit was just like the rest. I hoped they had heard about the blooming London burger 'scene' and wanted to get in on the action.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k7u0ZCOe4DY/UtgbXyuUppI/AAAAAAAABOc/64QNTi07blg/s1600/sm4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k7u0ZCOe4DY/UtgbXyuUppI/AAAAAAAABOc/64QNTi07blg/s1600/sm4.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Unfortunately, you can predict the rest. The burger was <strike>fucking atrocious</strike> pitiful. I paid an extra pound for 'scottish beef', making the total for a burger and curly fries £8.50 iirc. The patty was dry, overcooked, semi-cold, tasteless and dense in a super-economy-cashncarry-frozen-burgers-for-burger-van-sale-only kind of way. The bun was stale, and also of the same 'as cheap as possible' variety. There was an unmelted slice of tasteless plastic cheese, a single </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">small</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">tomato slice, some chopped raw onion and chopped lettuce bits. Yummy. At a guess i'd say the ingredients were so cheap they were actually given away to save space in the budget food establishment they came from. At most 40p for the lot. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eKoFssR6G4A/UtgbYeOGDVI/AAAAAAAABOU/u4-rZbQVsbk/s1600/smbrgr2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eKoFssR6G4A/UtgbYeOGDVI/AAAAAAAABOU/u4-rZbQVsbk/s1600/smbrgr2.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So there we go. As time ticks away and life goes on and the world changes dramatically in so many ways, there is one absolute constant to be found on the A40 near Perivale: Starvin' Marvin's burgers will be eternally shit. </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">But </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I'll probably be back in 2018.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oN0CNYYmhXg/UtgbKK35SdI/AAAAAAAABNc/-6fqifRy70U/s1600/rbbrgr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oN0CNYYmhXg/UtgbKK35SdI/AAAAAAAABNc/-6fqifRy70U/s1600/rbbrgr.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Stop the press! A high street restaurant chain has jumped on the burger bandwagon! This latest offering is from the Cafe Italia crew who have converted their High Wycombe restaurant into "Ranch Burger" offering what they describe as 'speciality burgers'. Although they would better be more accurately described as just 'burgers'. This one off restaurant is a test bed to gauge interest, but apparently it looks very much like they will be opening more soon. </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-feWuoGZf4ds/UtgbKH487mI/AAAAAAAABNY/mY-9wwnekl0/s1600/rb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-feWuoGZf4ds/UtgbKH487mI/AAAAAAAABNY/mY-9wwnekl0/s1600/rb1.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">When seated you are given a simple menu with a handful of burger choices (if 8 is a handful). You have to fill out a little Argos style food want list before taking it to the counter to pay up front. A fairly unnecessary gimmick i'm sure you'll agree (The tickbox note, not the payment part). I went for the £5.50 Classic Ranch with Cheese. £2 more gets you a double patty. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-29i3kHbvmzc/UtgbKLm5TNI/AAAAAAAABNU/qwWfwzpx8No/s1600/rb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-29i3kHbvmzc/UtgbKLm5TNI/AAAAAAAABNU/qwWfwzpx8No/s1600/rb2.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The decor would best be described as 'Weatherspoonsey'. The place was pretty busy for a rainy weekday lunchtime and we were seated next to a serve yourself icecream machine which delivered an unpleasant buzz throughout our meal. This buzz was accompanied by a smokey grilled beef smell wafting from the kitchen, which made my clothes stink of burgers for the rest of the day - free burger stench! whoopee! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d57N3deV8UM/UtgbKyNJ7xI/AAAAAAAABNw/VX9W9guKgfk/s1600/rbbrgr2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d57N3deV8UM/UtgbKyNJ7xI/AAAAAAAABNw/VX9W9guKgfk/s1600/rbbrgr2.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So. To the burger. The bun was way too tall to match the fillings, but it was at least a soft and freshly baked brioche roll which had been lightly toasted on the grill. The patty, which i was told came medium rare, arrived well done and was a little dry, a little under-seasoned, and a little underwhelming. The saving grace being it was a loosely formed course ground offering with nicely grill-sealed edges. The patty was topped with melted Monterey Jack, tomato slices and ranch dressing and 'bottomed' with lettuce and a decent enough tangy BBQ sauce. Rather odd to have two sauces in there but i guess you've got to be different to make your mark. As a whole it was, well, OK. But for £5.50 i guess its actually fairly good value. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ShxZgwJzsKc/UtgbLALGL1I/AAAAAAAABNs/AHDvtziAPA0/s1600/rbmenu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ShxZgwJzsKc/UtgbLALGL1I/AAAAAAAABNs/AHDvtziAPA0/s1600/rbmenu.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">So there we have it, the first review of 2014 and its a bit of a let down. But i guess that's to be expected from a mainstream restaurant chain aiming their sights <strike>squarely</strike> presumably at the GBK market. If you're on the move and need to grab a quick burger i can think of a lot of worse places to visit, and you get to keep a burger pencil to go in the drawer with the argos and ikea souvenirs. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Brighton. A rainy day. The British summer is coming to an end. What better way to raise spirits that to enjoy a cheeseburger by the seaside. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><a href="http://thenewclubbrighton.com/">The New Club</a> was recommended to me by a friend who's regularly in Brighton and after chatting to their enthusiastic head chef Tom i realised these guys were passionate about their burger design. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Describing themselves as "LA Indie Coffee House meets New York Bar & Diner" sounds about right to me. </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The venue is a modern glass fronted </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">affair with super high ceilings and an unspoiled view of the beach and sea beyond. I'm jealous of the locals before we've even ordered anything.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zoh2JS9vsK8/UjtXROYKLyI/AAAAAAAABEg/R1bkmQk-c1U/s1600/New+Club+(2+of+13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zoh2JS9vsK8/UjtXROYKLyI/AAAAAAAABEg/R1bkmQk-c1U/s1600/New+Club+(2+of+13).jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Almost everything on the menu is made in house. Burgerwise, they bake their own potato starch brioche and butter brioche buns twice a day, </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">blend their own American cheese and knock up a delicious house sauce. They use 35 day aged Longhorn and Black Angus beef from a local small </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">holdings farm and they mince their beef on site and make pattys in a 60/40 rump/chuck ratio with a little bone marrow thrown in </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">for good measure. And their fat content of only 10% means you can happily eat <strike>two</strike> <b>nine</b> of their burgers without </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">feeling guilty.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pp_V4Jn1Kwc/UjtXO5HaMrI/AAAAAAAABDk/32nxw7RnADk/s1600/New+Club+(11+of+13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Pp_V4Jn1Kwc/UjtXO5HaMrI/AAAAAAAABDk/32nxw7RnADk/s1600/New+Club+(11+of+13).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I go for the £8.5 cheeseburger which comes in a fresh brioche bun with thick pickle slices, melted American cheese slices, ketchup and mustard. </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Its very good. The coarse ground loosely formed patty came perfectly medium rare with seared edges and was surprisingly juicy considering the</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">'healthy'</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> fat content. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">
</span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The main flavour is their quality beef which is well complemented by the buttery brioche, pickle and sauce flavours which have all been added in what i assume must be tried and tested ratios. Good work Tom, its a cracking burger. Probably the best in town. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uq9luBx7jLc/UjtXUORx2_I/AAAAAAAABEk/7UeKsgfNuLs/s1600/New+Club+(7+of+13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uq9luBx7jLc/UjtXUORx2_I/AAAAAAAABEk/7UeKsgfNuLs/s1600/New+Club+(7+of+13).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Fries are crunchy and soft in the middle as you'd expect, the seasonal salad was full of interesting ingredients and the red slaw was crunchy and freshly made. This place is a treat.</span>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2hLr38JN120/UjtXU1z2AeI/AAAAAAAABE0/IZqSye-phkY/s1600/New+Club+(8+of+13).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2hLr38JN120/UjtXU1z2AeI/AAAAAAAABE0/IZqSye-phkY/s1600/New+Club+(8+of+13).jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Now this is the tricky bit. Tom whipped me up his new top-secret burger fresh from the R&D lab downstairs. I'm sworn to secrecy about any part of it, which as a <strike>food writer</strike> <strike>blogger</strike> <strike>scribe penman</strike> barely literate burger note taker means i'm <i>dying </i>to tell you about it. All i can say is that i thought it was better than the Cheeseburger reviewed above. I <i>really </i>hope Tom finishes his new creation and de-classifies it sharpish, as i'm dying to show you the photos and give it a bit of a write up. </span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] Earlier this week the new <a href="http://www.honestburgers.co.uk/">Honest</a> in Camden invited us over to share our thoughts on their 'American' burger. This was a rather exciting invite for 3 reasons - firstly, we love Honest. Secondly, we love 'American' style burgers. Thirdly, it'd be our first visit to Honest in Camden. Triple cooked win.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">You can find the latest restaurant in the Honest family just across the river (if you're coming from Camden Town), near the lock. It's not exactly tucked away, but I did manage to walk past it first time - possibly because it's less of a restaurant and more of an 'area' but more possibly because I'd already had a beer... It's good though - you can sit right in front of the kitchen and watch them make the burgers, or you can sit the other side in the pseudo open. Despite the lack of glass, it feels very much like the other Honest restaurants (the </span><a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2012/02/honest-burgers-brixton-village.html" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Brixton village one</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> in particular).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4I_5rhH_Vg4/UkWO0FUMovI/AAAAAAAABHY/__GD6RCfsTI/s1600/americanburgercloser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4I_5rhH_Vg4/UkWO0FUMovI/AAAAAAAABHY/__GD6RCfsTI/s1600/americanburgercloser.jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: x-small;">The American</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Since Honest opened in Soho, it's very much been a goto place for me when I've been drinking or had meetings (neither of which are mutually exclusive). I love the fact they'll take a phone number, send you away to the pub and call you when you're good to eat. Beats queuing *every time*. Better yet, the Honest burger remains one of my London favourites. Is still as good as the day we first reviewed their </span><a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2012/02/honest-burgers-brixton-village.html" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">Brixton Village</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> place. With the regular Honest burger being so good, could an American burger compete? Did it deserve a place on the menu?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5dfa_BtXL4/UkWO0pleAzI/AAAAAAAABHk/XGxWIKsX6Bo/s1600/honestburgercloser.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V5dfa_BtXL4/UkWO0pleAzI/AAAAAAAABHk/XGxWIKsX6Bo/s1600/honestburgercloser.jpg" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: x-small;">The Honest</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The idea was to have half an American and half an Honest burger - then say which was the better. I suppose a bit like a Ryder Cup of burger eating. But without the golf. Or the rest of Europe. The Honest burger was as good as ever. I won't bore you with something we've already covered, but needless to say it's great. The American burger was, well, also great.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JTcfaGXrUGI/UkWO0Ocao7I/AAAAAAAABHc/u92iswnqB5A/s1600/both.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JTcfaGXrUGI/UkWO0Ocao7I/AAAAAAAABHc/u92iswnqB5A/s1600/both.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Along with the fantastic patty that Honest does so well, the American came with lettuce, red onion, pickled cucumbers (gherkins!) and a burger sauce / capers mayo mix. On top of the meat was an American slice, French's mustard, and, like it's British cousin, two slices of bacon. Prior to serving, the top with the bun was cooked under a cloche, making it soft and moist. And needless to say, the Honest take on the Yankee classic was rather good.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bLd8FQ4ROpI/UkWO0w4-gBI/AAAAAAAABHs/qaHjuFVvdaM/s1600/outsidekitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bLd8FQ4ROpI/UkWO0w4-gBI/AAAAAAAABHs/qaHjuFVvdaM/s1600/outsidekitchen.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">How good, I hear you ask?! Well definitely good enough for the menu. I think if it was a special, I'd order it every time, safe in the knowledge that the Honest burger will always be there for me when it's over. But if it was a regular menu item, it's a little harder. There's something very special about the Honest burger - and whilst the American is great, there's a few places you can get a great American style burger. But there's only one place (well, three) you can get an Honest. If it makes it to the menu - definitely give it a go. But I don't think you'll have it every time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The American - 9/10</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Honest - still a solid 10/10</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] I've been to <a href="http://twitter.com/thetrollspantry">Troll's Pantry</a> twice this year. Once again I lazily ate and didn't bother to write it up. Sorry <a href="http://twitter.com/cheeseburgerb0y">CBB</a>(!). Anyway, after going for a second time a few weeks back I thought I should actually sit down and make some notes et voila.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r5msbHKn_Us/UjxtigcBHOI/AAAAAAAABFk/9lz2eyrebfk/s1600/Trolls+(2+of+5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r5msbHKn_Us/UjxtigcBHOI/AAAAAAAABFk/9lz2eyrebfk/s1600/Trolls+(2+of+5).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Troll's Pantry started life in Brighton in early 2012. Earlier this year they moved into the Hobgoblin pub, at 31 York Place - about 10 or so minutes walk from Brighton seafront. Pretty much everyone I've ever met that lives in Brighton had told me I needed to come and try a Troll's Pantry burger. So I did.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--_NE0g73dfc/UjxttB4EzNI/AAAAAAAABFs/GKbBQUOjh7w/s1600/Trolls+(4+of+5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--_NE0g73dfc/UjxttB4EzNI/AAAAAAAABFs/GKbBQUOjh7w/s1600/Trolls+(4+of+5).jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Served from a tent in the pub garden, Troll's Pantry serves a variety of different burgers all featuring their marvelous patty, with it's 30% fat and 35 day aged cuts of chuck & ribeye. There's only a few burgers on the menu - but I think they do specials regularly. It's worth checking their <a href="http://twitter.com/thetrollspantry">Twitter</a> to see what's going to be on (and also because last time we went Twitter gave us a magic word to 'double-up' for free - although there were 10 of us, so I apologise to a) Troll's Pantry, and b) to everyone behind us in the queue).</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">For my first visit I had the </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">£7.50 </span><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Trollkano burger</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> - a single patty featuring chilli bacon jam, chipotle mayo, lettuce, St. Gile's cheese, chilli rum BBQ sauce and spicy cocoa tomato salsa. An awful lot to have in a bun, but really rather good. For the second visit I had the £8.50 double patty Smoky Moutain burger - with bourbon bacon jam, smoked cheese, rum BBQ sauce, caramelised onion, garlic mayo and salad. Also a lovely burger - and one given a resounding thumbs up from the other 9 guys I'd dragged along.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Both of these burgers were great. They were sticky and messy, dripping over the table and running down my fingers. The toppings are rich, and as such one of these badboys should suffice even for those with larger appetites. So when you next find yourself down on the coast, make sure you stop by and give them a go.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Found on an avenue that cuts through the ever upmarket Primrose Hill, The Princess is a Victorian boozer that's recently been renovated into a multi-level gastro pub. It comprises a spacious main bar, a garden full of Banksy art, a posh upstairs dining room a handful of cosy downstairs hangouts with tables and chairs. </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-30143APKA5E/UjG_kwRy-5I/AAAAAAAABBo/iJ7fva7I32g/s1600/Princess+(1+of+1).jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The menu boasts their "Princess Burger: topped with roasted garlic mushroom, blue cheese, bacon, fries & onion rings" for £12.5. Now that's quite a collection of ingredients right there, but a collection that i'm happy to investigate. With my mouth. I ordered the burger as its recommended, medium rare and after a decent plate of crispy squid with chilli salt, it arrived on a long thin wooden board, visually impressive and with the suave grandeur of a Primrose Hill socialite. Well almost. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cAVh13hqvyw/UjG_shIeq5I/AAAAAAAABBw/mviReSOmHWk/s1600/Princess+(1+of+7).jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Aside from the meat and excellent brioche bun, there are a lot of strong flavours here, all fighting for the attention of your taste buds. There's the strong pang of blue cheese, the garlicky sharpness from the mushroom, the salty bacon and surprise appearance of a thick layer of sweet onion marmalade which wasn’t mentioned on the menu. As you can imagine, that's quite a fight. Like 5 unhealthy characters having it out at the end of a WWF wrestling match. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kSgW5rExyjo/UjG_xeL8JMI/AAAAAAAABB4/OMkKgB-7CqQ/s1600/Princess+(5+of+7).jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The beef patty is pretty good, well ground, well seared, nicely cooked to order, fairly loosely formed and just about juicy enough, but unfortunately its overwhelmed by the garlicky-salty-cheesy-sweety toppings. There’s just too much going on. The Princess burger might be a winner for folks that want a taste overload of a burger but personally I don’t like the beef to be a background flavour. Toppings should enhance, not choke hold then pile-drive the main ingredient into submission. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-73PhlaQfJh8/UjG_1-LnzpI/AAAAAAAABCA/s9G9HbfxqvA/s1600/Princess+(4+of+7).jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The cheeseburger my dining companion ordered was a much simpler affair even if it was overloaded with melted cheddar. The beef was back in the game, and overall it was a better, although comparatively nondescript, burger. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ydCmudZHTZQ/UjG_50_z7TI/AAAAAAAABCI/IfP1DgGRJ0w/s1600/Princess+(3+of+7).jpg" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Delightful staff, calm pleasant venue, decent enough burger. But I’d recommend ordering it with 1 or 2 of the toppings, not with everything as its listed on the menu. Its got potential, and it’s a nice place to hang out. Plus there’s the tiny chance you might see Kate Moss at the bar.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vyAAREUjjfg/UhTLgBST7qI/AAAAAAAAA_I/hcDHaxKfrjo/s1600/TR6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vyAAREUjjfg/UhTLgBST7qI/AAAAAAAAA_I/hcDHaxKfrjo/s1600/TR6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">[</span><a href="http://www.twitter.com/yesiamben" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">@yesiamben</a><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">] You can find Turner & Roast in Ely's Yard in The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. Having just checked out the Crepe City sneaker event and having heard their 'Meat Porn' sauce was pretty good, I figured I'd pick up a cheeseburger.</span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mnuPdoUd6-g/UhTGDFhirBI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/CtYEjJp7X5k/s1600/TR1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mnuPdoUd6-g/UhTGDFhirBI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/CtYEjJp7X5k/s1600/TR1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">So first things first. As someone who does a fair amount of work with search engines and Internet marketing, I can tell you that as much as I like the name, calling something 'Meat Porn' is going to make it almost impossible to find in Google. That said, if you were to throw two words together from a list of 'things men aged between 15 and 70 really like', those two would probably be pretty high up the list. Secondly, Turner & Roast seems to have based their logo on the one from the film Battle Royale. Which is fine by me. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kCg5dSpICyw/UhTGDBHdC7I/AAAAAAAAA-c/juCa-ZKBP28/s1600/TR3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kCg5dSpICyw/UhTGDBHdC7I/AAAAAAAAA-c/juCa-ZKBP28/s1600/TR3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I opted for the £5 cheeseburger with 'bourbon bacon'. According the to menu, the bacon is a £1.50 extra, but I was only charged £5 for the whole thing. As Turner & Roast is a pretty tiny food-van, the burger is cooked on a countertop griddle in front of you. They were pretty honest about the meat, saying it was just "decent beef from Tesco", the cheese was a cheddar slice (from a packet), and the bacon came from a packet that looked suspiciously like Tesco's finest. That said, we've all got to get our ingredients somewhere right, and burger mix and 'Meat Porn' sauce are definitely their own recipe. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_XlB20QL5gA/UhTGDrlm_OI/AAAAAAAAA-k/jInuaVjL6u0/s1600/TR4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_XlB20QL5gA/UhTGDrlm_OI/AAAAAAAAA-k/jInuaVjL6u0/s1600/TR4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">The patty was squashed thin and flat - nearly falling apart. When ready, the cheese was placed on top, followed by the top of the soft bun (that had been sitting on the griddle). It was then placed underneath a basting cover (steaming it / completely melting the cheese, I guess). The bottom of the bun was made as they suggested - some sliced lettuce, some pink pickled onion slices, some mayo and 'Meat Porn' BBQ sauce. The griddled top half was placed on top when ready. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">I've gotta say, I was pretty impressed. I've had way, way worse burgers for a fiver. Although nothing special, it was messy and flavoursome - perhaps mostly because of the 'Meat Porn'. The sauce is pretty good - a little spicy but more of a BBQ flavour and less heat than say - <a href="http://www.twitter.com/theribman">Holy Fuck</a> Hot Sauce, which I've been eating a lot of recently. For the price it's a nice treat. If you're over that way give it a go.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIB55_yj67Q/UfuIdxLVXhI/AAAAAAAAA70/_ZPr7VzsJ0M/s1600/DB5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lIB55_yj67Q/UfuIdxLVXhI/AAAAAAAAA70/_ZPr7VzsJ0M/s1600/DB5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://www.twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] The previous Disco Bistro popup at Rising Sun in EC4 served a wonderful burger (not pictured). It really was. The £10 'Disco Burger' was a Devon Ruby burger with bacon and cheese, served with fries, in a basket. The fries are much the same as they are at Disco Bistro N1C - thin, crispy and wonderful. The burger was, well - amazing. The patty was 30% fat and (from looking at my dreadfully scrawled notes) a mixture of rib, sirloin and bone marrow, cooked over charcoal. And boy was it good. Just pink enough, juicy and ever so beefy. On the bottom of the bun was some lettuce and ketchup, on the top of the patty some pickled red onions similar to those at N1C. But then there was bacon (which was pretty good), and for me, the icing on the cake - a gloopy rarebit style cheese mix consisting of beef fat, dark ale, Worcester sauce and some different cheeses. </span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FJXYsxNyFoQ/UfuIeSoRyTI/AAAAAAAAA78/DZU5Sx8b1Hs/s1600/DB6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FJXYsxNyFoQ/UfuIeSoRyTI/AAAAAAAAA78/DZU5Sx8b1Hs/s1600/DB6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">And so I was pretty excited to meet CBB at <a href="http://www.skatekingscross.com/">Skate Kings Cross</a> and try Carl's new £10 Roller Disco Burger - a rare breed beef patty, cheese, bun sauce, pineapple & bacon jam with chips. Now don't get me wrong - this was good, it just wasn't as good. I'm not a huge fan of pineapple, but it worked well - it wasn't over powering and complimented the bacon jam nicely. The patty was just as good, but I've got to say, I was a little let down by the cheese - it looked like a plain old slice of cheddar. It's not that there's anything wrong with that, just after the last rarebit style sauce, I was expecting greatness.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">All that said, the popup was good. And watching the skaters was fun - it'd make a pretty good first date - skating and a burger. I'll let CBB take over: </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pVor_iBGV0o/UfuIdZVwPgI/AAAAAAAAA8E/Mty-hjjO8V0/s1600/DB2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pVor_iBGV0o/UfuIdZVwPgI/AAAAAAAAA8E/Mty-hjjO8V0/s1600/DB2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://www.twitter.com/cheeseburgerb0y">@cheeseburgerb0y</a>] It would be a good date location, apart from the constantly falling over and looking like a dick part. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Disco Bistro N1C is a popuppey part of the cool new <a href="http://www.kingscross.co.uk/">Kings Cross</a> development area that is <a href="http://www.kerbfood.com/">KERB</a>, Granary Square, art and so on.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The Disco Bistro setup next to <a href="http://www.skatekingscross.com/">SkateKingsCross</a> looks like something out of A Clockwork Orange, its <i>very</i> cool. And <strike>staring at the hot roller girls evoked memories of <i>that</i> Heather Graham film</strike> </span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">watching the rollerskating while we ate was fun.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RFVp0YYCETY/UfuIdZkIxWI/AAAAAAAAA7g/I62d9tD05Mo/s1600/DB.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RFVp0YYCETY/UfuIdZkIxWI/AAAAAAAAA7g/I62d9tD05Mo/s1600/DB.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The burger was pretty decent, but let down by three</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"> factors: 1. The un-melted cheddar was claggy and disappointing. 2. There was way too much sugary bacon and pineapple jam. 3. It was overloaded with sliced pickled onions (i pulled some out). Unfortunately this resulted in overpowering the flavour of the all important bit - the delicious beef. I like pineapple, but that flavour overwhelmed this potentially great burger. The patty itself was lovely; medium rare, nice texture, coarse ground and ridiculously juicy, but by my book, the ratio's of the ingredients were way off. And also, the amount of burger sauce, jam and patty juice made the burger a bit <i>too </i>wet for my liking. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mUsF5n8IR1Y/UfuIdaTs10I/AAAAAAAAA7k/KgxPOBkX63g/s1600/DB3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mUsF5n8IR1Y/UfuIdaTs10I/AAAAAAAAA7k/KgxPOBkX63g/s1600/DB3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The spicy chicken wings were very tasty, although over battered, distancing the chicken flavour somewhat. The chips were excellent - crunchy and well seasoned. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Disco Bistro has received many excellent <a href="http://www.burgerac.com/2013/07/disco-bistro-n1c-burger.html">reviews</a>, so my expectations were high. It was <i>pretty</i> good for £10, but to be honest i wouldn't buy another one of these pineappley incarnations, i'll wait for the next Disco Bistro creation. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">[<a href="http://www.twitter.com/yesiamben">@yesiamben</a>] Great exports from Iceland: Bjork. Sigur Ros. World's strongest man Magnas Ver Magnasson. And <i>probably</i> some other stuff. To be honest, apart from some friends and family who've recently been to see the Northern Lights, a friend who went over to Reykjavik to (relatively unsuccessfully) hook up with a girl, and a guy I used to know who recently released an album there, I know very little about Iceland. But what I do know is we can probably add Tommi's <a href="http://www.burgerjoint.co.uk/">Burger Joint</a> to the 'great exports' list.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">In the interests of (<a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/">CheeseburgerBoy</a> based) science I went to check out their burgers now they've made the transition from <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2012/08/tommis-burger-joint.html">popup</a> to permanent shop. And I'm glad I did. Tommi's is on Thayer St., about 5 minutes and change from Bond St tube, a little further up the road from <a href="http://www.cheeseburgerboy.com/2013/01/patty-bun-soho.html">Patty & Bun</a>. The restaurant is everything you'd expect from a new burger place - not fancy - just neatly put together. Fine for a date - as long as you're not desperately trying to impress.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">The menu is simple - a burger, veggie burger and steak burger. Cheese is 60p extra, bacon another quid. A single burger is £5.90. They also have an 'Offer of the Century' - £9.90 for a burger, fries and a soda (a can of drink from the fridge). Whilst I can think of better offers so far this century (mostly unrelated to burgers), I think £9.90 is pretty good. Hell - <i>if</i> they made that a burger with cheese and bacon as well - I'd probably go as far as <i>great</i>. The restaurant also does takeaway, which is worth noting if you live near.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-duyefajlRWY/UgOwjP30S9I/AAAAAAAAA9Q/lMmiVO4ugJ8/s1600/Tommis_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-duyefajlRWY/UgOwjP30S9I/AAAAAAAAA9Q/lMmiVO4ugJ8/s1600/Tommis_3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: xx-small;">Aww, look at the happy chef</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">I went with a bacon cheeseburger and took it as it comes, medium. The burger comes wrapped in grease-proof</span><span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;"> paper, in a basket with fries. The fries are pretty good but pretty much standard. The burger is great. Without sounding like I want to claw my own eyes out, this is a burger without pretension. I eat so many burgers with fancy additions, fancy fillings and whatever else, but this was just, well - a burger - and a good burger at that.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7i4BfB6Ub7I/UgOwkOKYsMI/AAAAAAAAA9c/bG6RnJri6T0/s1600/Tommis_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7i4BfB6Ub7I/UgOwkOKYsMI/AAAAAAAAA9c/bG6RnJri6T0/s1600/Tommis_6.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">The beef was coarsely ground. Apparently it's all chuck, with a 20% minimum fat content. It was cooked perfectly - as pink as I would want it. The meat was ridiculously juicy and full of flavour. The bun was soft and fluffy. The patty sat on the bottom, was topped by a slice of American cheese, and I think back bacon. I'm usually a fan of streaky bacon in burgers, but the bacon was great. Above that was lettuce, some tomato and some red onion. On the top of the bun was some ketchup, mayo and I think a little French's mustard. Very simple, nothing special, but executed perfectly.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OyvZqwSBX48/UgOwjnZ2MQI/AAAAAAAAA9k/LORBMj_RJ40/s1600/Tommis_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OyvZqwSBX48/UgOwjnZ2MQI/AAAAAAAAA9k/LORBMj_RJ40/s1600/Tommis_4.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; text-align: justify;">I'm not sure whether Tommi's being up the road from Patty & Bun is a good thing or a bad thing. P&B is a *really* great burger and I'd worry they'd take any casual burger traffic heading up from Bond St. On the other hand, the queue outside of P&B is usually pretty ridiculous and (unless I was going for a special) I'd be more than happy to just wander a little further up and get me a little Icelandic Burger action. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Tommi's is a no frills, no messing around, decent burger joint. If that's what you're looking for - I thoroughly recommend it.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I'd heard nothing but good things about Street Kitchen so was very excited to see them grafting away in the sunshine amongst the throng of other foodie offerings here.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">After a short wait my £7 Buffalo Bill was called out. Its a simple no messing about recipe: a delicious brioche bun, lightly toasted of course, ketchup, English lettuce, a very flavoursome beef patty encased in melted cheddar topped with sliced pickled red onions and smoked mustard mayo. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OwxMuOiYUZk/UfJixcXZEeI/AAAAAAAAA6M/GVKOjFmmIyk/s1600/StreetKitchen+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OwxMuOiYUZk/UfJixcXZEeI/AAAAAAAAA6M/GVKOjFmmIyk/s1600/StreetKitchen+3.jpg" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">I have no idea why its called a Buffalo Bill. Its presumably named after the badass 19th century American buffalo slaying showman, rather than that super creepy moth fetishist bastard that knitted himself a human skin suit in that Anthony Hopkins flick about fava beans, chianti and serial killers. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Anyway, i digress. Its the meat that's the standout part of this burger. They were <i>way</i> to busy for me to get into a convo about cuts, ratios and suppliers, so i have no info about that. But I will say that the patty was juicy, delicious, perfectly seared top and bottom yet medium rare in the centre. The course ground beef they use tasted aged and high quality. Just what the doctor ordered. I bet even doctor <i>Lecter </i>would love this human-meat-free burger, its excellent. </span></div>
